"Even if I flew on the wings of happiness In a blink, I'd stagnate in emptiness And so I entrust to you my hopes and wishes Please receive them, accept them, acknowledge them" •·················•·················• It's my first full cover of an entire song! 🥳 I think it's also the first song that I've covered in its original tempo (155 BPM). I was recently introduced to Hoshimachi Suisei (星街すいせい) by a friend of mine, and I've since become a huge fan. There's something in Suisei's singing voice that is very alluring to me. There's this raw power that almost feels... skillfully "uncontrolled" in a way that conveys a lot? I suppose the best example of this would be her performance of Stellar Stellar on THE FIRST TAKE. This was a very satisfying cover to work on! Before I start working on a cover, I try to imagine the techniques I would like to use to express key parts of the song. For example, most songs deliver the greatest impact in the chorus, and there I would usually opt for powerful techniques like heavy chord strums, string hammers, thumb slams and the like. I then take this to the guitar, where I iterate over fretboard positions, capo positions and tunings (standard and Drop D only) to test my imagined interpretations. The limiting factor here is always the placement of notes. If all the notes in a chord are too high up the fretboard, for instance, things like strums end up sounding too thin. Sometimes I can't even find enough notes that can be held in a chord to make strums feasible. Pretty sure a greater familiarity with the fretboard would make these non-issues, but I'm just not there yet. So I was pleasantly surprised that the arrangement worked out mostly as I had imagined it to! I was able to use heavy strums with enough of the chords to make them sound full, reach the low bass notes while fretting the high melodies, and employ slides where I wanted them while still being able to find and hold the accompanying harmony and bass notes. Maybe I just got very lucky with the key (D minor) aligning very nicely with the tuning I used (Drop D). Anyway, I'm very happy with how this turned out! Love it or hate it, I'd say it's my best work thus far 😊 Please enjoy! (Also, the shirts I wore in the video broadly correspond to Suisei's and Kanaria's parts of the song. Just a cheeky lil' additional touch of effort I decided to add 😬) •·················•·················• Song: レクイエム (Requiem) Artists: Kanaria | Hoshimachi Suisei 【星街すいせい】 Arranged By: KusaStrings Tuning: D A D G B E (Drop D) Tabs: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1rfjr... •·················•·················• If you enjoy my work, consider supporting me by donating through my Ko-fi! 😊 https://ko-fi.com/kusastrings •·················•·················• The characters in the thumbnail are cropped from the official music video for this song: • 【Kanaria】レクイエム【星街すいせい】
