PROPHET OBADIAH - BUTEMBE FEAST 2025

With the blessings and permission of Metropolitan #Jeronymos of Kampala, Metropolitan Innocentios of #Sozusa and Exarch of #Mbarara & Western Uganda presided over the celebrations of the Feast of Prophet Obadiah on 19 November 2025 at the Prophet Obadiah Community in #Butembe, Njeru Municipality. The events were hosted at Prophet Obadiah Orthodox Nursery and Primary School, a learning institution founded on historic ground established by one of the pioneers of Orthodoxy in Uganda and East Africa, Archimandrite Obadiah Kabanda #Basajjakitalo. The day began with the baptism of six catechumens, conducted by His Eminence before the Divine Liturgy. He was joined in the celebration by Abbot Prodromos Lubega, Fr. Charalambos Mutalagwe, Fr. Samuel Luwagga, and Fr. Simon Mwebaze. Following the Liturgy, a memorial service was held in honor of the late Archimandrite Obadiah, commemorating his foundational role in establishing the community in 1972. The celebration continued with an #artoklasia service offered for the feast. Although the community does not yet have a permanent church building, the school structures serve as the center of worship and also provide vital educational support to local children, many of whom come from the predominantly fishing communities of the area.
