What's not to like about a game where you roast zombies with a flamethrower while flying with a jetpack? ...actually, quite a bit it turns out... Today on Ancient DOS Games, Gemini's taking a look at Alien Carnage, originally released as Halloween Harry in 1993, created by Interactive Binary Illusions and SubZero Software, while being published through Apogee. This episode covers how the game is played, how to obtain the game, and how to get it working best on modern systems using DOSBox. ------------------------------------------ Additional Information and Corrections: The 3D Realms storefront works a bit differently now than it used to. You can view game details about Alien Carnage from the following link, but to actually download the game you have to be signed in and you do it from a different page: https://3drealms.com/catalog/alien-ca... The joystick/gamepad controls are actually somewhat more convenient than the keyboard controls as you can just hold a button down and scroll the screen up or down to see above or below you. With the keyboard, you have to press the PGUP or PGDN keys... not quite as convenient... :P As a number of fans have pointed out now (and I completely forgot to add to this section until now), the original ordering of the levels with the sewers as the third episode and the skyscraper as the first was present in Halloween Harry, not just the full version but the shareware version too. Following the update, suddenly, there were two shareware versions out there with different content, effectively making half of the game available for free. :P Some of the comments I've received suggest that the original Halloween Harry, before becoming Alien Carnage, did not have the problem which is causing those runtime errors when you lose a life. It's also been suggested that slower, actual hardware suffers from the problem to a lesser extent, but that it CAN still happen on real hardware!
