Fundada en 1935 en La Habana, debe su nombre a la novela El Conde de Montecristo, de Alejandro Dumas, debido a la gran acogida de la historia y su protagonista entre los torcedores de puros de la fábrica H. Upmann. Hoy, Montecristo es considerado por muchos el referente del sabor del Habano. El XXIII Festival del Habano es el escenario ideal para lanzar la nueva vitola que ampliará la Línea Abierta de Montecristo. Montecristo Open Slam es una vitola de formato parejo y dimensiones únicas dentro del portafolio de la marca que enriquece esta Línea, la más antigua de Montecristo, concebida para aquellos que disfrutan de los placeres de disfrutarla al aire libre. Este nuevo producto se presenta al mercado en paquetes de 15 y 20 Habanos cada uno. Especialmente concebida para ser disfrutada al aire libre, la Línea Abierta de Montecristo fue presentada en 2009 y cuenta con cuatro vitolas: Águila (ring gauge 54 x 150 mm), Regata (calibre 46 x 135 mm), Master (calibre 50 x 124 mm) y Junior (calibre 38 x 110 mm). Con el lanzamiento del Montecristo Open Slam (calibre 52 x 142 mm), Montecristo amplía aún más las posibilidades de los aficionados a la hora de elegir un Habano. Estos Habanos están elaborados "Totalmente a Mano con Tripa Larga", tras una cuidadosa selección de las hojas de capa, tripa y ligamento procedentes de la zona más prestigiosa, Vuelta Abajo*, en la región de Pinar del Río*, Cuba*, y producidos por expertos torcedores cubanos.
