There is a lot of well-intended drone advice online that sounds like “common sense” but when you apply it to UK drone regulations, it can actually move an operation out of compliance. In this video, I walk through official CAA clarification on UK Open Category rules and compare it against some of the most commonly repeated advice found online. This includes misunderstandings around: • Open Category sub-categories (A1, A2, A3) • C0 / UK0 vs UK1 / C1 aircraft • Maximum take-off mass (MTOM) and payload • Night operations and lighting requirements • Why adding equipment can change how and where you are allowed to fly This video is not about criticising creators or pilots, it’s about showing how small assumptions can have regulatory consequences, and why relying on “common sense” alone isn’t enough when aviation law is involved. All regulatory points discussed are based on CAA clarification and applicable UK regulations. Links to official sources are provided for transparency.
