Ai due lati della spiaggia, la sabbia lascia spazio a scogliere e rocce che si tuffano nelle acque smeraldine. La torre del Porticciolo fa parte dei comprensori del parco naturale di Porto Conte e dell'area naturale marina protetta Capo Caccia - Isola Piana. La torre del Porticciolo fu costruita nella seconda metà del XVI secolo dai corallari di Alghero che, nella spiaggia del Portitxol, riparavano le barche. Nell'estate del 2008 viene fatta una sensazionale scoperta, quasi per caso: ritrovamenti di frammenti di ossa di dinosauro ai piedi della Torre. Si tratta di un Alierasaurus ronchii, un caseide erbivoro di grandi dimensioni (circa 7metri), che viveva nel Permiano medio fra 279 e 272milioni di anni fa. On an evening characterized by a strong mistral wind, I admire the sunset from the rocks that dominate the Porticciolo beach, inserted in the bay on whose northern promontory stands the tower that gives the town its name. On both sides of the beach, the sand gives way to cliffs and rocks that plunge into the emerald waters. The Porticciolo tower is part of the districts of the Porto Conte natural park and the Capo Caccia - Isola Piana protected marine natural area. The Porticciolo tower was built in the second half of the 16th century by the coral workers of Alghero who repaired the boats on the Portitxol beach. In the summer of 2008, a sensational discovery was made, almost by chance: fragments of dinosaur bones were found at the foot of the Tower. It is an Alierasaurus ronchii, a large herbivorous caseid (about 7 meters), which lived in the Middle Permian between 279 and 272 million years ago.
