Climate & Conflict 2024 panel with remarks by Eduardo Carrera, CEO, Platform for Social Impact The panel examines cross-border and place-based economic solutions to foster sustainable economies within island geographies, specifically Cuba and Puerto Rico. These strategies aim to create opportunities for resilience against unstable and climate-exacerbated conditions for the local population, thereby mitigating the causes of migration or displacement. Mark Grobmyer, Chairman of the Global Solutions Institute and advisor to The Peace Department, will explore a unique cross-border solution for Cuba and the US’s food crisis through the trade of limestone for food shipments (watch his remarks here: • From Climate Migration to Economic Resilie... ). For Puerto Rico, Eduardo Carrera, CEO of Platform for Social Impact, will highlight the success of a blended finance transition fund for supporting economic mobility and climate resilience in Puerto Rico, as proposed by the Carbon Residency Place-Based Transition Fund Playbook published in April 2024. Panelists offer a holistic perspective on the importance of economic empowerment in not only improving quality of life for islanders, but also advancing climate solutions and mitigating geopolitical risks.
