Much more than the largest cross in the world: the Valley of the Fallen is history carved in stone. It is the Basilica, the Abbey, the School-Escolanía, the Guesthouse. In addition to being a place of worship, since 1958 it has been home to about twenty Benedictine monks. Some of the first monks still live there. It was also the headquarters of the Center for Social Studies until 1982. All of this is threatened today. This documentary seeks to make known the history and significance of the Valley of the Fallen, explaining when, how, and why it was built and debunking the main myths about it. The first part, more historical in nature, features contributions from D. Pablo Linares, president of the Association for the Defense of the Valley of the Fallen, and the prestigious historian and expert on the Valley D. Alberto Bárcena. The second part is dedicated to monastic life in the Benedictine Abbey and includes interviews with Prior D. Santiago Cantera, Emeritus Abbot Fray Anselmo, and young Fray José Antonio. This part focuses mainly on the work of the monks, their daily tasks, their particular vocation, and the reasons why they live in the Valley. The music for the documentary was provided by the Escolanía del Valle. Special thanks to Luceat Films www.luceatfilms.com (drone footage and music).
