Little Discoverers provides free, group based, early education to complex, vulnerable children aged 0-5 who have delayed physical, communication and social and emotional skills. For example, Cerebral Palsy, Downs Syndrome, etc. We support up-to 24 families, over 3 sessions a week, with up to 8 children and their parent/carer per day. Sessions run on a Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 10am until 12pm during school term times. A unique and multi-sensory programme inspired by methods used at the Peto institute of Conductive Education (CE) in Hungary and the Early Foundation Stage Curriculum. Young children have brain plasticity that allows them to integrate sensory information to develop new neural pathways, so helping to maximise their abilities and potential. Sessions are planned and lead by three specially trained staff, that address the child's physical, communication, social and emotional needs. This holistic approach has shown to be extremely effective in improving the outcomes for these children. Parents benefit from building a support network of friends, accessing specialist advice and equipment and learning skills to help their child to develop at home. We celebrate each child’s achievements daily. This creates a positive bond between the child and parent, reducing the risk of abuse and improving wellbeing. We hold sibling events in the school holidays so families can meet, have fun and siblings can meet other young carers too. Our main impact is that pre-school aged children in West Norfolk receive a greater level of vital early therapy and support regularly, to improve their outcomes.
