Today we’re explaining what drive shaft angles are and demonstrating how to adjust those angles. You should check to ensure the correct driveshaft angle whenever your work involves changing the engine angle, making a ride height adjustment, or changing rear suspension components. Not checking the angle can cause premature u-joint wear, drive shaft vibrations, and even breaking parts. When looking, you want the angle of the transmission tail shaft to be the same as the angle on the rear pinion. There are options for angle finders, but we used a digital tool that does the math for you to calculate the difference. To make the adjustment to the rear suspension angle, we removed the shims from the suspension and made the truck arm snug before measuring the angles again. You want the angles to be within 0.5° of each other. Checking these angles is so critical because it can extend the life of your drive line components, especially the u-joints.
