Chiang Mai Night Life in 2024 is very busy. Western tourism is booming in this northern Thailand city, though it may be suffering elsewhere in the country. Arriving exhausted after a solo 2 week Roadtrip through fairly remote Thailand villages I arrive in Chiang Mai to discover it blanketed in international tourists so much so that the Thai locals seemed to be in the minority. Great for the Chiang Mai economy and terrible for my sleeping needs - as accomodation was nigh! Join me as I investigate the Chiang Mai tourism night life scene during the busiest week of high season in 2024. Nb: This is a tongue-in-cheek commentary on surplusage tourism and the western commodification of traditional Thai customs. I've tried to balance it equally with pot shots at my own failings and inherent weaknesses, taking aim today at my bogan heritage and proclivity to chase tail rather than fully immerse in these customs. I do enjoy me some irony though, like the gaggle of geese swaying to reggae music played by a Thai band, and the DJ who dropped The Lion King into his techno set.
