Isaias Savio - "Peixe Vivo" (Toada) | 10 Brazilian Folk Tunes, No.9 | Jonathan Richter

Isaias Savio (1900-1977) was a renowned Brazilian guitarist, composer, and teacher. This short and lively piece is titled "Peixe Vivo", meaning "live fish". The piece is known as a "toada", referring to a ballad or song, which is a rhythm that varies in different parts of Brazil. The guitar arrangement I'm playing was harmonized and fingered by Carlos Barbosa-Lima. The piece is the ninth piece in the book "10 Brazilian Folk Tunes" by Columbia Music Co. This piece is suitable for the upper beginner guitar level, and a good opportunity to practice syncopation. Peixe Vivo is in the key of A major, and mostly bounces between E7 and A major chord sequences. The B section is a short passage over a D major chord, which then returns to the main theme. Even though this traditional Brazilian folk melody is relatively simple, I love it!
