Glenn was the first person to ride an Atlas booster into space which he did aboard a Project Mercury spacecraft he named Friendship 7. His was the third crewed flight of Project Mercury behind Alan Shepard and Gus Grissom each of whom flew suborbital spaceflights. In this fast paced look at the flight, we'll see and hear John Glenn as we recount the trials and tribulations of the flight and ultimately watch the main parachutes deploy ahead of a safe splashdown into the Atlantic Ocean and history. Many of the accounts and descriptions of the flight are taken from the book John Glenn: A Memoir written by Glenn with Nick Taylor in 1982 and published by Bantam Books.
