Self-care is not selfish. Self-care is important for your overall health. Healthy activities will make your transition to a clean and sober life easier and more sustainable. Self-care is a way to treat yourself well and practice the self-respect you deserve as you move through the addiction recovery process. When you take care of yourself during recovery, you will decrease stress and anxiety and be able to focus on your well-being. In this video we discuss the importance of self-care in managing all aspects of well-being, particularly during recovery from addiction. Practicing self-care means working to eliminate relapse triggers. Jean is a certified addiction recovery specialist and a licensed clinical mental health counselor. She is also a person in long-term recovery, with 8 years clean from cocaine. Laura is a non-user who is trying to better understand addiction and recovery in attempt to be more patient, compassionate, and forgiving.
