I had no idea just how many different iterations actually existed and as far as I'm aware, I'm the first person to trying and made sense out of all of this. I did this by separating them into "Generations" The first Generation was in 2009 with the Custom Ordered for Sam Ash Black Widow Guitar. This was a Chambered R7 built to Historic Specs and was the first Gibson to feature the colored over binding. The 2nd Generation which is the version we will be looking at today was birthed in 2012. These were Custom Shop Customs with Rosewood Fretboards and this was the generation that birthed more colors than just Red. On top of Red there was Purple, Orange, Green and Blue. I consider the 3rd Generation to be anything produced after that initial run of colorful Widows that have Richlite fretboards and are also Custom Shop Customs. This includes both Gloss and Matte/Satin finished ones. 4th Generation would be possible if Gibson does more runs of these in the 2019+ line ups with Ebony Fretboards.
