TAOYUAN, TAIWAN - In Taiwan, two former neighbors are suing each other for assault after a heated argument over a drippy air conditioner lead to a physical altercation. Mr. Zhang, age 51, lives on the first floor and despised a 32 year old renter, Ms. Li, who lived on the third floor of the building. Why? Because her air conditioner dripped onto his metal awning and the noise kept him up all night. Mr. Zhang claims he spoke to Ms. Li several times about the noise and Ms. Li said she’d in turn spoken with her landlord about it. She wasn’t about to pay for repairs for an apartment she didn’t own. Finally, one day Mr. Zhang spotted Ms. Li downstairs. The two began arguing about the air conditioner situation again, which led to Mr. Zhang attempting to strangle the woman. She fought back. They are now both mutually suing the other for assault. Mr. Zhang said Ms. Li shouldn’t keep her air conditioning on all the time, causing him to lose sleep.
