I played this piece - 'the waving scarf' - from Edward MacDowell's collection 'From the 18th Century' which is a mixture of transcriptions and editions of harpsichord and clavichord pieces. Although described as a transcription, this is very much an edition, although MacDowell seems to have added some pedal chords towards the end. By using this version, I am hopefully sidestepping authenticity and contemporary performance practice issues by interpteting this 1900 edition and following the piano dynamics etc. marked by MacDowell. That said, apart from the pedal note, there are only a few differences in rthythm from a comtemporary harpsichord recording I heard while preparing this video, and this version should not alarm purists! I should say that some of MacDowell's transcriptions in this series are heavily arranged, and show the sort of monumental piano writing found in his 'Sea Pictures' and the slow movements of his sonatas.
