On the evening of February 9th, 1918 three local lawmen and one federal officer rode into the Arizona wilderness to apprehend four men. The events that followed has been so steeped in legend, lies, and hearsay, that the facts of what occurred at that remote cabin and why were almost lost to history. Contemporary interviews with historians and family members, archival footage, and original artwork tell the story of the events leading up to and following the most interesting shootout in Arizona's history. This shootout did not take place on the streets of Tombstone during its wild territorial days, but rather in a remote canyon of the Galiuro Mountains on a snowy Sunday morning in 1918. Close examination at the extant documents of the case following the shootout reveal that this was an opening salvo in a much more modern battle which pitted the rights of individuals against the power of the federal government. Power’s War tells the story of the dawn of the American surveillance age and the affect it had on the Power Family as they chased the disappearing wild frontier. Their silent protest against the war led to a skirmish that was soon followed by the largest manhunt and longest prison sentence served in the state of Arizona
