An account of the battle that took place on 13th May 1568 when Mary, Queen of Scots, found her route blocked by forces under the command of Regent Moray. With an army of 6,000 men, Mary was intent on reaching Dumbarton Castle to bolster her army and eventually retake the throne of Scotland. But it was not to be. Starting at Court Hill, near Cathcart Castle, where Mary watched in safety as the battle got under way, we then make our way along Battlefield Road, by Clincart Hill, past the Battlefield Rest and on to the battle monument. We briefly examine sixteenth century battle tactics and the role firearms played in the battle as they gradually displaced knights in armour on the battlefield. We take a look at the old village of Langside, which played a crucial role in the battle, and of which absolutely nothing now remains; then stand on the edges of Queen's Park - the position of Regent Moray's army - to look at how the battle unfolded on the very ground on which we stand. Using many sources or accounts of the battle, I have tried to keep it straightforward and easy to listen to, yet be informative and, above all else, accurate. And you too can visit these places today: Court Hill, Langside Battle Monument and Queen's Park, and relive the day our Queen lost it all.
