Prevention of infectious diseases – the role of vaccination in herd health management

Healthy cows result in profitable cows. With a growing focus on reducing antibiotic and anthelmintic (wormer) use, it has never been more important to ensure that your farm is engaged in proactive herd health. As well as calf health, foot health and udder health (mastitis), we also need to consider infectious disease. By establishing current status, putting in place risk assessment, continual monitoring, and considering appropriate vaccines as part of herd management, it is possible to prevent or reduce disease at herd level. In this webinar strategic dairy farm hosts, Richard and Joe Twose are be joined by veterinary consultant Dr James Breen, from Map of Ag, to discuss how the team at Maenhir can ensure that they are effectively managing their herd to reduce the impact of pathogens and parasites. This session explored: Available vaccines and their cost effectiveness Selecting the appropriate vaccines for your farm Monitoring disease in your herd and when to react Timing and storing vaccines for maximum efficacy Follow us on Twitter:   / ahdb_dairy   Like us on Facebook:   /    Sign up for the latest news and events: https://ahdb.org.uk/keeping-in-touch ABOUT AHDB AHDB is a statutory levy board, funded by farmers, growers and others in the supply chain.
