The Hyundai Sonata is a great car and replacing the rear bumper is not too difficult. We specialize in pre-painted auto body parts and this is an insurance job we did. We have another video on replacing the front bumper as well as the headlight. We also painted the doors even though that is not something we offer online, but we are very happy with how this car turned out. We'll show you a couple snags you may encounter while you change out this bumper. You only need few tools and some elbow grease! TOOLS NEEDED: You will need a Philips screwdriver and a socket wrench with a 10mm socket. You also need a 7mm socket for the tail light nuts and a panel clip removal tool or flat-head screwdriver for the plastic clips. PROCESS: This is not a difficult removal or installation to complete, however, there are a couple annoying clips on the bumper that may provide some issues. We started by removing the tail lights on this Sonata. Every or most Hyundais seem to have a clip and, or screw right under the tail light. Unfortunately, you do have to remove the lights but luckily it's a simple procedure. Once you get your lights off, you can transition to any part of the bumper. We went for the bottom of the bumper and removed the lower plastic plate and clips. There are about 5 plastic clips under the plate that need to be removed. Once we had the bottom bumper detached, we moved to the wheel wells or fender liners. The bumper ends are held on by 3 screws and one plastic clip. Once those are off, you can gently pull the bumper off of the bracket towards the middle of the bumper. Now, this is where it can get a bit annoying. There are 2 tabs that attach the bumper on the corners to the vehicle frame. They are held on by this razor clip, or what looks to be a metal clip, resembling a razor with teeth that hold on to a plastic tab. It's best to use a flat-head screwdriver to push the clips or tab out. It's hard to see in the video but it's not a difficult procedure. It's okay if you break the tabs on the bumper while removing it, the new bumper will have tabs insert. Now with the bumper off you can start to remove the reflectors, diffuser and transition them to the new bumper. Removing and installing the bumper accessories is super easy and only will require a Philips screwdriver. Now you can begin installing the new bumper onto your vehicle. This should be super easy for you since you have removed the bumper. Again, those pesky little clips and tabs will be annoying to insert on the bumper corners, but it's doable. Snap the bumper onto the brackets and secure it with all the screws, clips, and bolts you removed. We hope you were able to save some money with this video or with our painted auto part.
