PART THREE - YOUR AUTHORITY Power is the capacity of a person to influence others and alter their actions, beliefs, and behaviours. Authority is the legitimate power or legal and formal right to give commands and make decisions. Jesus Christ has given us both power and authority However, the basis of our authority in Christ is linked with our identity as sons of God, and starts from our new birth experience. (John 1:12-13). We have been born-again, that is, legally born from above into God’s family. We have been legally adopted by the power of the Holy Spirit and made sons of God in Christ Jesus. (Romans 8:15-17) Having been born from above into God’s family by the power of the Holy Spirit, we have “jus soli” which means that we have the right of soil (territory) or a right of birth. Our legal position in Christ as adopted sons of God, gives us legal rights and privileges along with power and authority that we can claim, such as, pleading the Blood and using the authority of the name of Jesus Christ. We have been made joint-heirs with Jesus Christ and the Kingdom of God is our birthright.
