Built in about 1891 the Scott County Jail in Georgetown Kentucky used up till 1990 & is designated a Kentucky Landmark. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002 & currently, the building houses the Scott County Arts & Cultural Center. The jail’s most famous prisoner was Kentucky Secretary of State Caleb Powers, who was tried four times in connection with the 1900 assassination of Gov. William Goebel. In 1908, Powers’ legal travails came to an end when Gov. Augustus E. Willson pardoned him. The Jail was built in the Romanesque- Revival Style and had steam heat, running water and electricity, the Jailer's Dwelling, built about 1870, is a brick Italianate-style two-story three-bay building on stone foundation. It is 44 by 21 feet, not including an ell which extends an additional 18 feet to the rear. I will try to go back after the Covid-19 mess to see if I can get permission to go inside for another video. #jail #abandoned #Georgetown #kentucky #shorts #short #shortvideo
