Completed in 6 turns (135 total). Challenge playlist: • FE11 H5 No Forge & No Warp LTC (COMPL... The penultimate gaiden chapter of this game. We had to sack our last two named allies in Julian and Lorenz (technically not sacked since I just didn't recruit him, feeding the experience to Hardin). Julian has had a lot of thieving contributions to the run, having opened chests, doors and bridges, all of which helped us in one way or another. He may have high growths to work with, but E swords combat with funny bases just doesn't cut it when sword users of a much higher calibre don't get particularly favourable opportunities to shine either. He dies opening his last bridge. His support to Lena will not matter in this run. Lorenz is an interesting case. He's another Class B set unit, with the highest bow rank of the characters recruitable in the run, meaning he can go Horseman to use silver bows against the fliers we're about to take on. His competition is Horace, a worse horseman (both are doubled by the stronger enemies, and Horace cannot go above steel bow/killer bow access). I decide that having 10 mov fliers in Jagen and Midia, no matter how poor their combat may be, is better than whatever Julian and Lorenz could contribute. Ultimately, it doesn't matter as we don't need more than 10 units for just about any given map (the only exception is the following map where we actually need just about everyone). Past this chapter, there are no more sacrifices necessary to unlock any maps, gaiden 24x having different (and unnecessarily complicated) requirements. We could benefit from the last gaiden-exclusive Ymir joining us here with stats somewhat comparable to Barst's at this point (Barst has a lot more strength). Ymir could function as a hero, a horseman, or warrior/berserker. His recruitment implies talking to him in the corner of the map we have no business travelling to, and since he doesn't move we can't bait him closer to Marth, either. Oh well, Barst and Sedgar will more than suffice as Class B units. So, what is chapter 20x like? It's a long run to the seize point (this time, neither a gate nor a throne) where the usual high mobility dracoknights get to shine. The enemy types are similar to the ones we keep encountering, featuring paladins, horsemen and generals, keeping faithful to the lore. Some variety would've been nice in gaiden chapters at least, but it's only chapter 24x that actually introduces it. Enemies approach us consistently from two directions at once, and I opt to send Sedgar to distract one of the two groups whilst the main army follows Marth and ensures his survival. Again, Sedgar has no trouble facing multiple enemies at once, ignoring horsemen's silver bow damage entirely and withstanding the other blows with no outside help (gotta conserve Physic and Fortify uses until they actually make a difference). Symbolically, as it has been pointed out, Hardin keeps using Gradivus he took from 'slain' Camus, an when he levels in speed, he can double and 2HKO paladins with it in spite of having worse stats than Abel or Shiida. Shiida keeps catching up with Abel's strength stat, and the save point used on the last turn precedes the level-ups of Shiida, Jake, Hardin and Cain, Cain failing to level up because Jagen just STEALS HIS KILL JUST LIKE THAT. Getting +str for Shiida and unrigging Jake's HP growth with Shadow Dragon's dynamic growth system is exactly as unreliable as you'd expect, so I spend a bit of time resetting here. Chapters 21, 22, 23 and 24 are all some of the most exciting exhilarating maps of this game, so we have a good lategame to look forward to.
