Minister of State for Trade, Industry and Cooperatives David Bahati delivers an in-depth message reflecting on Uganda’s political season, the legacy of the NRM, and the strategic importance of the Kigezi region as the country heads toward the 2026 general elections. Speaking during the festive season, Bahati congratulates Ugandans on Christmas and urges citizens to make informed electoral choices based on leadership performance, history, and the future of the country. He highlights the sacrifices made during Uganda’s liberation struggle and credits the NRM government, led by President Yoweri Museveni, for restoring peace, security, democracy, and stability. The Minister outlines major development milestones in Kigezi, including: Improved peace and security since 1986 Expansion of electricity, roads, water, and health centers Growth in education with secondary schools, nursing institutions, and Kabale University Reduced maternal mortality and malaria rates Major infrastructure projects such as the Masaka–Katuna Road and regional highways Bahati also emphasizes economic transformation through the Parish Development Model (PDM), tourism, mineral development (iron ore, gold), cross-border trade with DRC and Rwanda, and plans for industrial parks and steel factories to create jobs—especially for the youth. He underscores Kigezi’s unique position as a tourism hub with mountain gorillas, Lake Bunyonyi, and rich scenery, as well as its role in boosting Uganda’s exports and regional trade. As elections approach, Bahati calls for unity, peaceful politics, open debate, and continued support for development-focused leadership. He concludes with an appeal to voters in Ndorwa County West to support his bid to continue safeguarding and expanding the region’s development gains.
