This video shows Pollen Mites (Afrocypholaelaps africana) infesting western honey bees (Apis Mellifera). Dubbed into French, German, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese and Spanish. The microscopic photography is a useful tool for identifying pollen mites and distinguishing them from Tropilaelaps mites and Varroa mites. The pollen mite infestation was recorded on 4 March 2024 (early autumn) at Hinterland Bees near Maleny on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland, Australia. The host flora of the pollen mites was observed as Elaeocarpus grandis (Blue Quandong), which flowers in late summer and early autumn and produces a peacock blue fruit in late spring. At the time of recording, the Blue Quandong was experiencing an unusually heavy flowering season, resulting in a strong nectar flow. Around four days after recording, most of the Blue Quandongs had finished flowering, and the mites almost completely disappeared. -------------------------------------------- 👉 V I D E O S T O W A T C H N E X T : ⏯️ BEEHIVE TRAP-OUT: How to remove bees from a tree) • BEEHIVE TRAP-OUT: How to remove bees... ⏯️ Shorts • Shorts -------------------------------------------- Chapters 00:00 - Introduction - Pollen Mites 00:21 - Frenetic grooming activity 00:46 - Microscopic view of pollen mites 01:16 - Pollen Mites on foliage 01:37 - What do pollen mites do to bees? 02:05 - Polen mite loads inside the hives 02:18 - Mites on queens 02:34 - Pollen mite host flora 02:53 - Pollen mites in flowers 03:08 - How long did the mites stay around? 03:25 - How do pollen mite impact bees? -------------------------------------------- ➡️ More about Hinterland Bees https://www.hinterlandbees.com/ Contact: https://www.hinterlandbees.com/contact — © @hinterlandbees
