IMPORTANT INFORMATION HERE; PLEASE READ: This is the story of how I found and changed my life with the natural plant, Kratom. Disabled now, I work much less, and it's almost exclusively done on-line, and do work outside the home only occasionally. The internet allows me to be able to continue to be productive and useful! I like exchange and conversation a lot, but regret that I no longer have time to answer people's questions about their particular situations. I recommend the little Kratom guide that I wrote, which answers many questions, and has basic facts about starting out responsibly. On Facebook, it is simply called "Kratom Beginner's Guide." I AM A LAYPERSON! I am an arts and letters person, not a scientist, and my words are strictly my own personal evaluation of my own personal experience, not a medical professional’s position paper. The collected information in the Kratom guide is anecdotal (as well as including links to scientific articles, etc.), over years of being active in the Kratom world. In my opinion, the guide remains solid. HOWEVER, I do encourage people to do their own further research! One MUST be responsible about the use of this leaf, and seek good information and reliable vendors before starting to experiment with it. Vendors need to lab test ALL their imports for contamination and particulates (and post them, or be willing to provide the to clients!), and also be able to display up-to-industry-standard facilities for receiving and packing. None of this in-your-living-room-with your dog-hair-and-sandwich-bag stuff! One can get a very good orientation through advocacy groups such as the American Kratom Association ( "AKA" -- https://www.americankratom.org). At present, its legal status is in danger in various states. Update fall 2018: this fight has become rather pressing. See AKA's page for information. There is a great amount of misleading, inaccurate information regarding Kratom coming out in mainstream news articles. Though a bit more fair coverage is emerging, overall, there is a lot of sensational, alarmist, and downright FALSE reporting on this plant. ~ It does not cause negative side effects. If too much is taken it can cause nausea, and dizziness, so one must start small. If you take too much for your system, you will throw up. ~ It does not cause respiratory depression, the typical fatal cause of everyday prescription drug death. ~ It is NOT synthetic (it comes from a tree that is related to the coffee family). ~ It does NOT make me, or many hundreds of others, "high." (Again, depending on the strain, it can make some feel "well-being," energized, or sedated, but it is not extreme, nor "drug-like," I am told) ~ It has been used, literally, for century upon century in SE Asia. As far as I am aware (and I have followed pretty closely) ALL deaths associated with Kratom ***have been shown to involve use of other drugs.*** Sure, if you are seeking a "high" and using this plant irresponsibly, of course something bad can happen! My mind is blown by the stupid, who are playing around with this and other drugs, or dosing at absurdly high levels. THI IS A MEDICINE, NOT A PARTY SUBSTANCE*** and just as with other substances, one must address its use seriously. Just as with EVERY.OTHER.SUBSTANCE, there are going to be people with whom Kratom doesn't agree. Some might have an allergy to it. Some might feel sick just "because." This is true about everything that we ingest! The negligible number of negative stories I have heard about this plant, in my opinion, display that it is like every, single, other substance -- great for most, and not for everybody. Take a look at the hundreds of comments here. When one or two people have had a horrid Kratom experience, I think "Yes, that sounds like every other substance on the planet." How many people cannot tolerate certain pharmaceuticals (I cannot take codeine, for example)? How many people will become sick-- or die! -- from certain foods? Alarmist opposition, hence, or those accusing me of lying, or "pushing some agenda" are quite welcome to go jump in a lake. None of us has time to indulge fools when it comes to issues of our bodies and health. I DO want to be able to take my own natural plant, and not have my right to do that, taken from me. The alternative is a life of dunder-brained drug-taking (I cannot be without relief, period), and its resulting physical damage -- as well as potential death. NOT OK. How can we be forced to that!? Thousands in the USA have discovered this amazing plant, and have been able to leave Rx drugs behind, just like me. The idea that it will be taken from us by an institution that is beholden to the pharmaceutical industry is frightening and infuriating. Some people have challenged my personal claims about Kratom. No problem. Bottom line: I am not a physician or scientist, and I cannot opine on medical things as if I were. I wish everybody relief from pain!
