This video shows how the brush assembly can be easily replaced to extend the life of your OEM Honda Alternator. At 124k miles, the brushes on this starter were down to 5mm in length which is about half of the service range. However, this vehicle has mostly highway miles, so if you do a lot of local driving then the brushes might wear out at a lower mileage since you may have greater engine revolutions for a given mileage. To remove the alternator, the Honda service information recommends removing the exhaust pipe and extracting the alternator from the bottom of the vehicle. However, in rust-prone areas like where I live, removing the exhaust is painful and usually requires cutting off and replacing fasteners. So in this video, I show a method that can be used to remove the alternator from the top by first removing the battery box. Although it does require a bit of disassembly, I believe it is a much easier method than removing the tailpipe at least for DIYers who live in snowy/salty areas. I didn't show the removal of the serpentine belt, but I have a separate video on that if it is of interest: • Serpentine Belt Replacement on 2018-2... 00:00 Introduction 01:42 Battery Tray & Air Box Removal 12:33 Alternator Removal 26:13 Brush Replacement 30:25 Brush Comparison 31:06 Alternator Reinstall 38:13 Battery Tray & Air Box Reinstall 47:35 Uh, Oh, a Leftover Bolt! 49:11 Test Drive and Checks
