World's FIRST iPhone 11 Sapphire Screen Protector? Shellrus Sapphire X Review

Sapphire was all the rage in 2014 right? It didn’t work out then but it’s definitely working now. The Sapphire X by Shellrus is a premium, high-end screen protector. This screen protector is something else. Prepare to have your mind blown. Need to get your own? Get 10% off your own by using the code "MREH10" @ https://www.shellrus.com/ Shellrus's Sapphire X Screen protector is made from synthetic sapphire which has been cut to .23mm which is thinner the average screen protector at 0.33mm. This screen protector isn’t a full edge to edge screen protector so depending on your iPhone, there might be an exposed gap between whatever case you use and the screen protector. Shellrus is coming out with a full edge to edge screen protector in the next few months which will solve that problem BUT with the smaller screen protector, it’s going to fit with any case you choose. The Shellrus screen protector has a notch for the front facing speaker but everything else gets covered. I didn’t notice a big difference in image quality with my front facing camera being covered. The screen protector feels different. It’s just as smooth as other higher quality glass BUT it feels different as the sapphire transfers heat much quicker than glass and it feels colder to the touch. It’s a neat feeling. The last thing I’ll note, and this is probably one of the coolest things that I’ve seen in terms of a glass screen protector is that at the bottom of the screen protector, there is a faint watermark. Which is neat. BUT none of this can justify the 80 USD’s you’d have to pay to get this screen protector on your iPhone if it doesn’t offer better than average protection right? Now if you’ve been watching my reviews for a while, you’ll know that I consider screen protectors to be consumables. They scratch and the crack. Is that the case with sapphire? The first test I did with the Sapphire X was the fingernail test. Cheap screen protectors will crack under the pressure of my hands. The Sapphire X did not.  So how scratch resistant is it? To figure this out, I took three iPhones, one with an Airo Collective screen protector which is a normal tempered screen protector, one with my current favorite from FloLab, which is double tempered  and the Sapphire X screen protector. My first scratch test was to use a random rock I found outside. This particular rock had a corner that had something that was harder than 9H as it chewed up the normal glass screen protectors.  On the Sapphire X? Nothing. It was mind blowing. The last scratch test was done with my Leatherman. For whatever reason, the file on Leatherman has a hate-on for glass and chews up screen protectors like Monty chews up carrots. Both the Airo Collective and Flolab screen protectors were destroyed by the file but the Sapphire X showed absolutely no signs of damage. Now based on all the hype, I knew Sapphire was suppose to be very scratch resistant. Now to see it in action, that’s something else.  So how about impact?  To figure that out, I took the screen protector out for a spin with the screen crusher and Bertha, my 200g steel ball. I started the first drop at about 80cm which is the average height for tempered glass and it broke. Which was surprising because I was on a mild high from the scratch protection. Now after all that, you’re probably pretty excited about this product. BUT here’s the kicker. It isn’t cheap. At 80 bucks, you can buy 4 Flolab Nanoarmours which will last you a while for the same price as the Sapphire X. Now I don’t think it’s an unreasonable price because it takes a lot more effort to create the raw sapphire ingot. Remember 21 days to grow a clump of glass. Is it worth it? That’s up to you? If you’ve got the cash to burn than absolutely but at the end of the day, it’s still glass, it’s still going to break so it’s still a consumable.
