Choice-based handling and cooperative care are ways to improve captive experiences for snakes, increase welfare, and facilitate safety and smoother keeping experiences; however, snakes should also be habituated to those times when you have to intrude into their space because circumstances necessitate it. When intruding into your snake's personal space has to happen you can prepare them ahead of time with a occasional practice. To help your snake be more accepting and less distressed by necessary intrusions you can periodically, occasionally, NOT frequently practice: lifting their hide, taking them out along with their hide and removing them briefly from their enclosure, then putting them back.
