"Your Intelligent 4-Wheel Drive system allows you the option of selecting among different drive modes, based on road conditions. Rotate the switch in the center console to shift between each mode. You will be able to choose among these drive modes: 2-Wheel Drive, AUTO or LOCK. 2-Wheel Drive is for normal driving conditions, typically for dry, paved roads. Selecting AUTO mode, if so equipped, will cause this indicator light to illuminate. AUTO mode is for driving on paved or slippery roads. It automatically changes torque distribution between front and rear wheels depending on road conditions. The LOCK mode is for driving on rough roads. It provides maximum power and traction for steep grades and rocky, sandy or muddy roads. Selecting it will cause both of these symbols to illuminate. When the vehicle is driven at a high speed, the LOCK mode will automatically change to the AUTO mode, and the LOCK indicator will turn off. Also, the LOCK mode will automatically shut off when the ignition is turned off. If you operate the 4WD mode switch while making a turn or while accelerating or decelerating, or if you turn off the ignition switch while in the AUTO or LOCK mode, you might feel a jolt. This is not a malfunction. If there is a malfunction in the 4-wheel drive system, this 4-wheel drive light will illuminate. If it blinks rapidly, it indicates that the transfer case oil temperature is abnormally high as may happen during continuous operation to try to free a stuck vehicle. If the light blinks slowly it indicates a difference in wheel rotation. This can be the result when the front and rear tires are different diameters. Please see your Owner’s Manual for important safety information, system limitations and additional operating information. "
