Targeted manipulation of vine balance: does vine balance directly affect fruit composition?

Speaker: Dr Everard Edwards (CSIRO) Webinar recorded: 11 October 2018 The concept of vine balance can vary between countries, regions and growers, but the importance of balanced vines for quality fruit production is widely acknowledged. Significant time and effort are spent on managing the relationship between crop size and vine vigour, often to the detriment of vine yield. Despite this, measurements of vine balance are not often made. We re-examined this concept, replicating management strategies at commercial vineyards in three different regions, while using modern scientific tools to determine the extent to which vine balance itself determines fruit and wine composition.
