Ho scritto Blue Raff come un piccolo banco di prova, quasi per gioco: un blues “semplice” nella forma, ma parkeriano nello spirito. Il blues è ovunque, lo hanno suonato innumerevoli musicisti e molti lo usano per imparare a improvvisare. Proprio per questo scriverne uno proprio non è affatto facile: trovare una melodia che abbia senso, che dica qualcosa di vero in un territorio già pieno di voci, è un gesto coraggioso. È arrivato così: era lui a cercarmi. Ogni giorno tornava, insisteva, mi costringeva a fischiettarlo finché ho capito che non potevo ignorarlo. Sembrava che qualcosa — o qualcuno — più grande di me mi stesse chiedendo di fissarlo, scriverlo e dargli vita col suono. Blues is everywhere; countless musicians have played it, and many use it to begin exploring improvisation. And precisely for this reason, writing one of your own is anything but easy: finding a melody that feels true in a landscape already full of voices is an act of courage. It came to me like this: it was the melody looking for me. Every day it returned, insisting, forcing me to whistle it until I understood I could no longer ignore it. It felt as if something — or someone — greater than myself was asking me to capture it, write it down, and give it life.
