Iğdır is a province in the Eastern Anatolia Region of Turkey, in the Erzurum - Kars Section and in the easternmost part of Turkey. Located at an important cultural crossroads, the province borders Armenia, the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic and Iran, and is the only province in Turkey to have borders with three countries. One third of the area of Mount Ararat, Turkey's highest mountain, is within the borders of the Suveren village of the city center. In the province of Iğdır, which used to be an important stop on the caravan routes, the economy is largely based on agriculture. The plain irrigated by the Aras River is one of the most important plant production areas in the Eastern Anatolia Region. Iğdır is famous for its houses that transition from garden to garden. There are apricot and apple trees in these gardens. It is suitable for agriculture and various fruits and vegetables such as sugar beet, cotton, watermelon, tomatoes are grown. Iğdır province is not rich in underground resources. In addition to the rock salt in Tuzluca district, Pumice Stone (Perforated and spongy stone that can stand on the surface of the water and used for back scrubbing in baths) is encountered between the district of Aralik and the village of Suveren. The reserve of salt deposits in Tuzluca district is approximately 800 million tons and contains 98% NaCl. Tuzluca Salt Factory has the capacity to produce 100-120 tons of salt per month. The “Meteor Pit”, located within the borders of Korhan Plateau of Karakoyunlu, approximately 42 km from the city center, is a large pit formed by the fall of a meteorite in 1892. It ranks second in the world in terms of size and depth, after the Barringer Crater in Arizona. It is 35 meters wide and 60 meters deep. It is also possible to come across many worked stones around the pit. This place, which is a riot of colors with its rich natural scenery and floral flora that cannot be found anywhere in the world, is located at a crossroad that provides the opportunity to see three states at the same time.
