This video is about how to use your planner to plan more effectively so you can manage your time better and procrastinate less! #college #planning 1. Estimate how long a task will take while you are writing things down 1. If you don't do this, you'll end up with so many tasks undone at the end of the day that you'll end up feeling discouraged. Try using soft brackets to estimate how much time you might take doing the task and hard brackets if you want to spend a minimum amount of time on a task. 2. Add necessary details in your planner 1. There's a point in writing things down in your planner if there is no meaning behind it. Try to add necessary details like who, what, when, where, why, or how with the tasks you write down. 3. Prioritizing tasks 1. You don't have to write down tasks in the order of importance because it might be better to do a brain dump but you need to have a way to indicate what is the most important or urgent out of the list of things to do. 4. Migrating tasks 1. We leave NO TASKS behind. We can't complete everything we plan for every day. "Nobody is perfect." Make sure if you didn't get things done, to schedule it for some other time during the week and indicate the original task with an arrow showing that you moved the task. 5. Upcoming events 1. So if you only use a weekly planner, and you totally forgot about a test the next week, you'll only find out that you have an exam by flipping the page over. To prevent such an unfortunate event, you want to write down something like "2 weeks before exam" or "exam on monday next week" so you have another reminder. 6. Getting a planner that fits with your lifestyle 1. Over the years, I realized that I HATE hourly planners. Don't get me wrong, I use Google Calendar to schedule in my class times and time-block but a physical planner with hourly slots? I DO NOT like writing down repetitive things every single week. Make sure that you choose a planner whether its hourly, daily, weekly, monthly or a combination that works for you. 7. Look at it every day 1. If you plan for the week but never look at the plan, you just wasted time, you basically just bought an overpriced scrap paper. So, make sure you review your plan in the morning and at night, migrate tasks, reflect to be a better planner. 8. Bring it with you 1. Similar to the last point, make sure that you are carrying it around. The last thing you want is having to look through multiple notebooks, pieces of paper to actually find the task you were supposed to put in your planner.
