Forgotten Genocides: Hazara Genocide in Afghanistan - by Ms. Zeba Mohammed Arif

ICHRRF.org's 2nd Annual Forgotten Genocides Convention was held this year on September 23, 2024 in Lorton, VA, just outside Washington, DC. Zeba Mohammad Arif was born in Kabul, Afghanistan. Due to political unrest and conflict, her family fled to neighboring counties when she was two. After graduating from high school in New Delhi, India, she began working as an interpreter for the YMCA and later for the Bosco, United Nations High Commission for Refugees, in India. Before arriving in the United States, she assisted refugee women in New Delhi by teaching Hindi in her house, finding jobs, opening small businesses, and connecting them to available resources at the UNHCR. Zeba followed her desire to become involved in federal and public affairs and further her education after moving to the United States in 2014. She received her BA degree in Political Science and MA in Social Science in Secondary Education from Northeastern Illinois University. She was employed as an intern at several offices, including the office of Congressman Brad Schindler, representing the 10th district of Illinois, the office of State Senator Ram Villivalam, representing the 8th district in Illinois, and the office of Consulate General of Israel to the Midwest in Illinois. She also works as an activist to fight against discrimination and inequality against women and other minorities. Her ambition is to empower women by encouraging them to pursue higher education and run businesses. Currently, she teaches social studies at Charles J. Colgan Sr. High School in Prince William County Public School. She also is a Co-founder/President of the Hazara Foundation, a nonprofit organization. She, like many other activists, fights to bring justice for all forgotten genocides by recognizing their historical significance, including the Hazara genocide.
