In this short video we will show you a common problem we see when listing a home for sale because as homes get older more and more things need to be maintained and in this case it is a dripping shower which turns out is a fairly quick and inexpensive fix if you know what you are doing. If you don't know or don't feel confident to try this yourself then hire a plumber because a small thing like this can deter a potential buyer and end up causing you more money in the long run. The shower cartridge needs replacing so go online and find the right make and model and order a replacement cartridge. If you are not sure which model you need before you open it up then you can buy a couple different ones and return the ones you don't need after the job is done. I got mine from Amazon for under $30. First thing to do is turn the water off and the main shut off is normally found in the basement. Next, use a small Allen key to remove the handle. Unscrew the large decorative cover and then slide off the cylindrical tube covering the cartridge. There is a cover nut holding the cartridge in place that you need to remove. It should only be hand tight but you may need multi-grip pliers to loosen it first. If you didn't turn the water off you would know that now because you need to pull out the cartridge. It will be very tight and you might need to lever it to get it started but persevere and it will come out. Now the cartridge is out you may find evidence of debris blocking it, stoping the valve from closing properly and hence causing the drip. Make sure the shower body is clean from further debris as you don't want the replacement cartridge to block up. Rub some plumber grease around the o-rings on the new cartridge to help it slide in easier and prevent damage to the o-rings and push it into the shower body making sure to line up the H with the hot (left) side and the alignment guides to the alignment notches. Once it is all the way in, replace the cover ring to hand tight or use multi-grip pliers to make it just a little tighter. Replace the cover tube and then the decorative cover screwing it into place. Replace the handle and now you are ready to turn the water back on to test it. When you turn the water on, do it gradually. You will hear the water start flowing then slowly turn on some more and then open fully. If you don't hear the water flow slow down and stop then turn it back off and go check your repair was successful or not. If it looks ok then are there any open faucets or did someone flush a toilet which would explain why you could still hear water flowing through the water meter at the shut off. When the water is back on and there is no water flowing through the meter then it's time to go check your handy work. Turn the tap on slowly as there will be air gaps and pressure build up because the water was turned off. Once the water flows normally, turn the tap off and make sure there are no drips. Congratulations, you know how to repair a dripping shower faucet. #diyprojects #homemaintenance #realestate #sellingahome #plumbingrepair
