Vanity Jukebox Vol. 16 Hundreds & Thousands Mixed by MΔRRI$ [2012] In 2012, the lines between blog-era hip-hop, early internet club music, and post-dubstep experimentation were dissolving in real time. This mix is a time capsule from that moment — when SoundCloud rap hadn’t fully formed yet, when DJs were stitching together UK bass, Jersey club, Southern rap, and neon-colored electronic hybrids into something that felt lawless, playful, and new. I made this mix in that moment, before algorithms flattened discovery, when scenes still felt local, word-of-mouth, and slightly mythical. Listening back now, it feels less like nostalgia and more like a snapshot of possibility — a period when anything could sit next to anything, as long as it knocked. How I was introduced to Morri$' music is now a story I always eagerly tell to those I expose to his sound. An intern at my former job named, Ricky Brown contacted me prior to my BPM 2011 showcase back in October during CMJ in NYC. Via email he expressed his interest in a mix I played for him earlier last year in March during SXSW @ The FADER Fort and how a hometown buddy of his made music dubbed, Goombawave that he felt was similar to my taste. He was more than correct! I heard Rashida Jones for the first time and lost my mind for the few short minutes it bumped in my headphones. I replied, got connected and booked Morri$ on the spot for BPM 2011 and the rest is history. Since providing Morri$ with his NYC live debut, he's appeared on many credible music/lifestyle blogs and DJ mixes including XLR8R, High Snobiety, Mishka and Mess Kid x Nicky Digital.
