Cutting-edge medical and genetic technologies are advancing so quickly that we can now engineer elements of our future. These technologies raise significant ethical, moral and legal questions, and for people with disabilities, those questions can be a matter of their very existence. Do we have a moral obligation to use these technologies to eliminate traits that could lead to disability? Or is it our responsibility to acknowledge and embrace genetic diversity by restricting how these technologies are used? Doha Debates presents a town hall-style conversation that asks: Should we engineer a world without disability? This Town Hall is co-moderated by Nelufar Hedayat, Doha Debates correspondent, and Dr. Victor Pineda, president of World Enabled. Our guest speakers are Vivian Fernández de Torrijos, the former first lady of Panama; and Dr. Mohammed Ghaly, professor of Islam and bioethics at Hamad Bin Khalifa University in Doha. It is presented at the World Innovation Summit for Health. The audio for this town is available in Arabic: • هل يجب تصميم عالم بلا إعاقة؟ | لقاء مفتوح ...
