The push and pull from the great Bay of Biscay is felt daily on the shorelines of Plage de Gatseau, Île d'Oleron. This slice of heaven runs along the strait of Maumusson that connects to the big bay. Plage de Gatseau curves inland away from the strait, giving its waters a remarkable stillness. Not only that, Windtop Forest that backs the beach creates a safe haven from the prevailing North winds. Time slowed when my eyes first came upon this beauty. Without a word, my senses told me that this place was special. And as a euphoric calmness set in, this traveller desired for nothing more than to set the anchor and stay. Keep in mind that perils abound between there and our current waypoint of Boyardville, Île d’Oleron. Nothing risked nothing gained though right? For Gatseau!
