My surgeon did not want to give me a collar to allow for ease of getting around since I'm fairly young at 38 and small figured, however, I found I desperately needed something for car rides as the acceleration was very painful. I ordered this and the Miami j and this Aspen is apparently the only one my surgeon will ever use if he does prescribe a brace and by far provided tremendous pain relief and comfortable support during even a 5 hour long drive one week after surgery.
