Sony vs Lexar SD card? Is expensive always better?

Do you need an affordable SD card for your camera? Maybe you should consider alternative brands as they may be just as good. Today we test the read and write performance of one such alternative card to your branded original card, Lexar vs Sony SD cards. I have tested it using Blackmagic disk speed test utility, using the largest file size as that should be a more accurate reflection of the sustained read and write speed. I further tested with my mac internal sd card reader and got similar results, so the sony branded reader did not give the sony card any advantage here. In conclusion, the Lexar and Sony performed excellently, with similar write speed. However, you do get slight more performance in terms of read speed with the Sony card and that's where the extra money goes. I cannot speak about long term durability as I have honestly not used any card longer than a few months to date.
