Wide of central Cairo with the Nile, bridges and traffic STORYLINE Egyptians were hopeful on Saturday morning, after President Hosni Mubarak resigned and handed power to the military, and Egypt held its biggest celebration in decades. Residents were aware they faced an uncertain future, with many protesters vowing to stay camped in a central Cairo square until they hear "clear assurances" that their demands for democracy will be met. Burnt-out vehicles were being towed away and Egyptian soldiers swept the streets and cleared barricades to open the road leading to Tahrir, or Liberation, Square after a night of jubilant celebration and nearly three weeks of protests that forced Mubarak to surrender. "Everything is okay now, we are very quiet and we just want to see a new government and we are looking for our rights to live good for democracy and what more," said one elderly man. Protesters were divided. Some took down their makeshift tents and headed home. Others vowed to stay put. Saturday's calm was in marked contrast to the night before. Throughout Friday night, Tahrir Square and the surrounding downtown streets were transformed into a massive party. Thousands streamed in from across the city, jamming bridges over the Nile.
