Finally captured on June 9, 1944 - three days after the D-Day landings - this massive gun site was buried by US Engineers not long after its capture... and forgotten about until English historian and militaria expert Gary Sterne began to investigate the area in January 2004. Finding an overgrown field with just a few glimpses of exposed concrete, he began the process of purchasing the land and excavating the site. What he discovered is simply incredible - one of Normandy's largest gun batteries with five open emplacements, personnel bunkers, office buildings, underground ammunition stores, and over 2.5km of connecting trenches. Today, the Maisy Batterie is an open air museum which can be visited by the public - it's a must-see for anyone visiting Normandy.
