Deep Shamanic Drumming and Healing Chants

I recorded another video by the campfire — this time with our shaman drum that Charlotte and I made in Peru. The drum accompanied and supported us throughout our entire journey. Unfortunately, near the end it was bitten by a dog who apparently mistook it for a chew toy. Luckily, the main hide of the drum remained intact; only the cords that kept it stretched were chewed through. A little while ago, we finally sat down to re-string the drum. It turned out to be quite a process, since the first time we had someone showing us how to string it properly. This time, we had to use a different technique because we didn’t have enough hide available. Parts of it were nerve-wracking, but it was also a valuable process — a reminder not to give up when facing obstacles, to work with what you have, and to improvise here and there. 😁 Unfortunately, depending on the temperature and how tight the hide is, you can now hear a slightly discordant humming sound. So it looks like we’ll have to re-string the drum a third time — next time with enough hide. 😁 In this recording, though, the tension was just right and the humming is only audible for a short moment. :) So here’s to not giving up — to trying again when something doesn’t work out right away.
