This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. "Think for a Change" - The process of thinking and following a disciplined movement of thought can create a valuable, transformative experience in ways that powerfully differ from the sense of knowing. Learning how to think better is a means for producing meaningful personal and social change. ust as she was considering dropping out of college, Cori Wong started studying philosophy without knowing what it was or that it would change her life. During the past five years, while earning a dual PhD in Philosophy and Women's Studies, Cori became an outspoken advocate for practicing philosophy in ways that meaningfully engage and transform our everyday experiences. By focusing on the powerful relationship that can exist between philosophy and life -- what Cori calls "philifesophy" -- she has pursued various avenues for empowering others to think through their lives in creative and exciting ways. With an emphasis on personal transformation and social justice, Cori's approach to philosophical practice inspired her blog and her "Think for a Change" video series on YouTube. In addition to writing for public audiences, speaking at events and conferences, and teaching undergraduate classes, Cori also started her own practice in philosophical consulting. Rather than being boring, dull, or pointless, Cori shows how philosophy should fill you up and make you think better, feel better, and live better. If it doesn't, then it's not living up to its purpose as an art of living. Cori has published two short articles: "Improving the Politics of Evolution" "Where Are the Gay Girls? Re-Cognizing Homophobia" About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
