190915 F 111B Carrier Launch Jetcat Development

Building and trimming two F-111B jetcats for the Carrier-Launch Jetcat event at WestFAC this fall (2019). One version is adapted from the West-Wings/Estes F-111 catapult glider kit and has the wings swept, the second one is cut from lighter wood and has the wings in approach configuration. The approach-configured version experienced dramatic flutter on hard cat launches, eventually resulting in structural failure of the wing. A bit of carbon-fiber reinforcement cured that, and after a few dozen trim flights both models gave some nice flights launched off the carrier deck (folding table). Looking forward to WestFAC!
