In a world in transition, STI policy needs to adapt

Transformations depend on scientific knowledge and the development and deployment of enabling technologies. These, in turn, rely on well-functioning STI systems to generate and utilize relevant knowledge, technologies, and innovation at pace and scale. Sustained investments and greater directionality in research and innovation activities are needed, alongside a reappraisal of STI systems and policies to ensure they are "fit-for-purpose" to contribute to transformative change agendas. Listen to voices from the April 2024 OECD Science and Technology Ministerial Meeting, highlighting the critical role of STI policy in our evolving world. At the Ministerial, over 50 countries and international organisations endorsed a Ministerial Declaration advocating for innovative policies promoting sustainability and inclusivity, and welcomed a new OECD framework for responsible governance of emerging technologies.
