Finding our DREAM off-grid land

Join us this week as we find our dream piece of land for us to start creating a basecamp. We had contacted a local family farm in the Cederberg mountains which meant it was time to look at the first piece of land which by some miracle we fell in love with straight away! There were 2 sections of the farm that land that we could park our vans on. Either in the grassy open field among the fruit trees or alongside the already built up structure which provided shade with an upstairs deck area. We looked around for some time then took a walk down to the river that flows through the bottom of the property. We weren’t expecting to find a space that ticked all our boxes so quickly , with a flowing river, vast open Mountain View’s and in a safe remote area but before decided we needed to make sure the vans could access the land so we took a walk up what would be our road. Although the grass was very long it seemed like a great option to drive the vans in. We were staying in a nearby campsite at the time as we anticipated looking for land quite a bit longer but this also gave us a chance to get some things done on the land before moving there with both our vans. Here you will see us starting work on the bathroom with the help of Ruan who had been living here previously. On the bottom left you’ll see the zinc roof and bamboo that would soon attatched to the poles to become our bathroom. First we started by digging holes to cement poles into the ground. We collected sand from the river bed that would be used to mix even more concrete to lay for the floor. We helped with a few more tasks before heading back to camp.
