When the season ended for Roosevelt last year, it ended in heartbreak and disappointment. There’s something about losing that brings out the best in the heart of a champion. Roosevelt had all summer to think about that loss and build up the fire to make it back. Saturday night it was Roosevelts chance for redemption. They would face the Notre Dame knights who won the division one title in 2024 and beat Harvard Westlake to get to this year‘s title game. The headliners, none other than McDonald’s All-American Braden Burries and the number one ranked Junior in the country in Tyron Stokes. The supporting cast or the mustang is New Mexico bound, Isaac Williamson and unsigned senior fan favorite Myles Walker. For Notre Dame, Lino Mark, who is headed for Rutgers next year and stand Junior Zachary White. Stokes had the Knights out early with a six point lead but the Mustang ripped off an 11-0 run thanks to Miles Walker and Isaac Williamson. Burries was held to two points in the first half but the mustangs took a five point lead into the locker room at the break. Burries got into an offensive groove in the second half scoring 17 of his 19 points in the third and fourth quarters. Walker continued to take advantage of open space beyond the three connecting on five of nine from downtown for the game and 19 points. Tyron Stokes led a Notre Dame charge and took the lead 55-54 early in the fourth quarter after a monster dunk. The knights punished Roosevelt in the paint scoring 40 points to the mustangs 20 points in the paint. Roosevelt forced 13 Notre Dame turnovers and converted those into 19 points as the mustangs won there first Southern section title and school history 74-67. Braden Burries and Miles Walker both had 19 points and Isaac Williamson had 15 points. Freshman Cameron Anderson had nine big points off the bench. Tyron Stokes led all scorers with 21 points 13 rebounds and five assists. White added 15 points and Lino Mark along with Navarro Bowman both added 11 points.
